Merger/Acquisition ImageIn order to make an informed decision regarding a merger/acquisition opportunity, the client must understand the market in question, its customers and trends. It must understand the potential merger/acquisition target's current market position, and the major factors that motivate customers to purchase in order to capitalize on the acquisition and gain market share.

Of critical importance are any factors that will influence future use of the merger/acquisition target's products/services. The client must understand any possible reasons for reducing product/service usage, and any possible upcoming products/technologies that may replace the current product/service.

Key questions that must be answered include:

  • Determining the merger/acquisition target's market share (past,current,future)
  • Determining the target organization's sales over the next 5 years
  • Determining future viability of the technology
  • To determine major customer needs or expectations that influence purchase decisions of the merger/acquisition target's products/services.
  • To identify customer needs or expectations unfulfilled by the merger/acquisition target or competitors and their relative importance.
  • To provide information that would enable the client to develop a strategy that would gain it market share over all competitors in the markets in which it chooses to compete.
  • To identify which product and application areas are growing, and which are shrinking, and the reasons why.
